March: Howdy, from Texas!
Our first trip to Texas, The Round Top Antiques Fair and Waco was a great success!
This trip has been on our to-do list for a lot of years. My Grandpa Guerra hails from Hidalgo county in southern Texas and it was exciting to finally get to visit his home state.
We were blown away by how green it was, the amount of trees and the colorful wildflowers growing everywhere! Mom really enjoyed the songbirds that founds us at every stop on our trip as well.
Austin
We flew into Austin and immediately upon touchdown we were shocked at how green it was and the blue bonnets lining the tarmac. I don’t know what we were expecting? Probably more of an Arizona desert landscape with cactus and tumbleweeds.
Austin was a beautiful city. So many trees, beautiful walking paths, great art and beautiful architecture.
A lot of where we went was based off of suggestions from a local friend of ours and they did not disappoint. Shopping at South Congress and Domain Northside was top-notch. I think we hit every Tecovas in the city and then some. 🙈
Getting a pair of Tecovas boots with complimentary boot branding was definitely a highlight of the trip!
Along with shopping our way through Austin, we also ate our weight in good food. A few of the memorable spots we hit were Velvet Taco, Salt Lick BBQ, Guero’s Tacos and Raising Cane’s. It’s official - Chik Fil A is chicken king. An honorable mention goes to Raising Cane’s dipping sauce, though. 😉
All-in-all, Austin was a blast and we can’t wait to go back! We barely scratched the surface on what it has to offer and will definitely be returning.
Round Top
Our day at Round Top was one for the books. It was about a little more than an hour drive from where we stayed in Round Rock to the sweet little towns of Carmine, Burton and Warrenton, where they hold the show. Another gorgeous drive full of rolling hills, green trees, longhorns and blue bonnets!
The Round Top Antiques Show started in 1968 by Emma Lee Turner and includes 80+ venues all independently owned and operated by small business owners.
This show was one of the most organized and beautiful shows we’ve ever attended. Definitely a bucket list item for anyone who loves antiques, one-of-a-kind furniture and western fashion.
Some of our favorite vendors were East End Salvage, Eneby Home, Campbell’s Melange, Townsend Provisions, KD Weave and Bjorkstam Hat Company - just to name a few.
Waco
Waco was another hour or so drive north of Round Rock. We got up early and hit the Silos Bakery first thing! Highly recommend the ‘Prize Pig’ breakfast biscuit.
After the bakery, we walked through the Seed & Supply gardens and then we shopped our way through the Magnolia Market and Shops at the Silos. It was such a beautiful, warm morning and we thoroughly enjoyed the grackles serenading us from the trees.
After a few quiet minutes in the church, we walked to the Magnolia Press. The atmosphere and interior design at the press was one of our favorite parts of Magnolia. And their strawberry matcha and almond croissant were some of the best things we’ve ever tasted. We may or may not have gone back for seconds later in the day.
That afternoon, we made our way into downtown Waco for lunch at Hotel 1928. This historic building was absolutely stunning. Before our lunch reservation, we wandered through the hotel lobby, cafe, gift store and library to check out the gorgeous interior. Another amazing experience and a fantastic atmosphere.
Our final stop in Waco was to the newly renovated Castle and its surrounding historic neighborhood - another absolute gem. Naturally, we love to look at real estate and beautiful exteriors so this was a great way to end the day!
Our trip was a wonderful adventure.
See you again, soon, Texas!
